Privacy Policy

• Your email address, a username and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase Auth) and are never stored in plain text by us.
• When you created your account and when you last signed in or were last active.
• Whether your email address has been verified, and basic account flags such as whether you're a site administrator.

Everything in this list is optional. If you fill it in, most of it is shown on your profile. Some of it is only shown to signed-in players (see "Who can see your information").

• Display name, avatar image, bio, title and avatar style settings.
• Date of birth. The year is never shown. The month and day are only shown, to signed-in players, if you turn on "Show my birthday" in Settings (off by default).
• Hometown, occupation, website, languages, interests, a favorite quote, favorite books, games, shows and music.
• Links to other accounts: Discord, X/Twitter, GitHub and Steam usernames.
• Forum preferences such as signature, font and post background, plus your time zone (private, only shown to you), theme and email notification preferences.

• Your character: name, class, level, experience, stats, position in the world and total play time.
• In-game activity such as battles, loot, achievements, in-game chat messages and items bought in the marketplace.
• Forum threads, posts, likes, profile comments and news comments you write, including edits and deletions.
• Republic Points (the site's virtual currency) balances, and Republic Point donations you send or receive. Republic Points have no cash value.
• Notifications we send you inside the site, and a community activity feed (for example "X created a character").
• A history of display name changes.

• Public to everyone, including visitors who aren't signed in: your username, display name, avatar, bio, title, occupation, languages, interests and favorites, your forum posts, your character's name and level, leaderboards and the community activity feed.
• Signed-in players only: your hometown, website and Discord, X/Twitter, GitHub and Steam usernames, and your birthday (month and day) if you turned on "Show my birthday".
• Online status: signed-in players can see that you're online in the "Who's Online" list. Visitors who aren't signed in only see how many players are online, never who. Turn off "Show me as online" in Settings to stay out of every online list and count.
• Private: your email address, password, date of birth year, last sign-in time, time zone and notification settings. These are only visible to you and to site administrators.
• Site administrators can see account details (including email addresses) to run the site, handle abuse and help with account problems.
• We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

We only use cookies and browser storage that the site needs to work. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

• A sign-in cookie and matching browser storage entry that keep you signed in (they last up to 7 days unless you sign out).
• Browser storage for small conveniences, such as a hero name you typed on the home page before registering, and cached game data.

The site does not currently use third-party analytics or advertising scripts. If that changes, we'll update this page first.

Athena Online runs on a few infrastructure providers. They process data on our behalf so the site can work:

• Supabase: database, file storage for avatar images, sign-in, and the account emails (verification and password reset).
• Vercel: hosting for the website.

Like most websites, our hosting and database providers keep technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and request times) to run and protect the service. To limit abuse, we also record recent sign-in, sign-up and password-reset attempts for a short time, keyed by the email or username that was entered.

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, such as access rules that keep private profile fields private. No online service can promise perfect security.

We keep your account and the content you post for as long as your account exists, or until you ask us to remove it. Deleted forum posts may be kept hidden rather than erased immediately, so moderators can handle reports.

• You can view and edit your profile and most of your settings at any time in Settings.
• You can leave optional profile fields empty.
• In Settings you can turn off "Show me as online" (on by default) and turn on or off "Show my birthday" (off by default).
• To ask for a copy of your data, or for your account and data to be deleted, contact the site administrator (see below). There isn't a self-service delete button yet.

Athena Online isn't directed at young children. If you believe a child has created an account without a parent's permission, please contact us and we'll remove it.
